Making New Year’s Resolutions is often a cause of debate. Some people wholeheartedly believe in the idea, while others seem to think it is a waste of time. I can see both sides, but I tend to enjoy

Besides the boring, typical resolutions (hitting the gym more often, eating healthier, etc) I have also set some social media resolutions for 2016. As a relatively new member of the Social Distillery team, I am always looking for ways to learn and improve, and I think these resolutions will help me do just that. And who knows, they may even help other social media marketers out there who are looking to push themselves this year.1) New year, new profile. Have some of your accounts had the same profile picture and cover photo on Facebook for as long as you can remember? Even social media accounts deserve a makeover every now and then. Take advantage of the new year by updating all of the bios and images where necessary. 2) Trim the fat on visuals. Taking the time to create good graphics for posts is definitely worth it, and even just resizing images can make a world of difference. I like to reference Spredfast’s Image & Video Size Guide to be sure the visuals I am using will fit each platform perfectly. 3) Make new connections. Just as some of you may be wanting to meet new friends this year, making new connections for your brands is just as important. Engaging with influencers online is a great way to increase followers and build a community. This could mean making an effort to retweet
marketing and social media relevant tweets or commenting on LinkedIn articles in order to show your enthusiasm for a specific topic. I have been thinking about ways to increase Instagram followers for one of my clients, and engaging with influencers on the platform will be one of the tactics I will try in the new year. 4) Cheers to the analytics. Analytics may not seem very glamorous but they are extremely beneficial for community managers like myself.
Pay attention to the data and fine-tune your content

This year, keep a close eye on your data and try to identify the content that’s really connecting, and – just as importantly – the content that isn’t. There are so many brands doing wonderfully imaginative things with their social. Why not be one of them? Look at what other brands are doing and try to improve on them. Get inspired. Video content has always required a little extra effort, but for many brands out there it’s time to start giving it the attention it needs. There’s no denying it – video is becoming an all-important aspect of consumers’ online behavior. You’ll want to make this a major focus of your social media efforts. Try taking advantage of Vine’s short six-second format to create fun clips on a limited budget. The more shareable, the better. For those of you with your sights set firmly on the future, live-streaming might be something to start delving into. With apps like Periscope and Meerkat on the rise and more brands starting to pick up on the trend, we have a feeling this will be an increasingly powerful tool for social media marketers in 2016. Looking at the posts that got the most engagement each month can help to determine what types of content to share in the future. It can also be helpful for repurposing content. There’s nothing wrong with using top performing posts more than once! I will definitely be taking a closer look at the reporting this year to see how I can create better content for my accounts. 5) Stay on top of the trends. One of my specific goals for 2016 is to be better about following industry news channels and staying educated about the field. Makes New Year’s Resolutions
As we kick off 2016, we here at WABI have been thinking about New Year’s resolutions.Taylor Kinzler’s resolution is pretty common in this age of social media.“My New Year’s resolution is to spend less time

So I’m going to make a conscious effort to spend less time on it,” said Taylor.John Krinjak, meantime, is refocusing his attention on fitness.“My resolution would have to be going to the gym. I go but it’s not often. It’s got to be like three to four times a week. It’s going to happen in 2016 I promise,” said John. Brenna Kelly has wellness on her mind, too. “I have to say drinking more water, H2O has so many benefits, in addition to eating healthy and like John said working out,” said Brenna.Brandon Doyen is ambitious this year–with a list of resolutions he hopes to accomplish.“In 2016 I hope to be more kind to people, appreciate the little things more, spend less time on devices like these and more time outside enjoying this beautiful state,” said Brandon. Eric Gullickson is looking at the big picture. “My New Year’s resolution this year is to contribute more in our community around where we live and also out at our farm in Waldo County,” said Eric. New Mainer Arielle Whooley hopes to do a bit of exploring. “My new years resolution heading into 2016 is always the standard–drink more water, read more, but I also want to try to visit more places

And Caitlin Burchill has bookish aspirations for 2016.“My New Year’s resolution is the same one as last year. To read more. I started doing it recently but I didn’t do it all year. So 2016 is the year of Burchill and the books. And I’m also going to try to smile less. Just kidding…I can’t do that,” said Caitlin.
